About us

Just Empowerment Development Association

Just Empowerment Development Association (JEDA)  is a National Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Wakiso District, Uganda. It was started in 2009 by a group of public social workers who wanted to help each other access affordable loans and improve their lives. After some time, they realized that many people in their communities were still struggling, so they decided to change the group into an organization that supports the wider community.

JEDA works to empower vulnerable and marginalized people by providing them with skills, support, and opportunities to improve their lives. The organization focuses on different areas, such as social protection, gender equality, community empowerment, education, environment management, and public health care.

Through different programs and activities, JEDA aims to reduce poverty, promote social security, support children and women, and create strong, self-reliant communities. We also work with other local and international partners to achieve our goals.

History of JEDA

The story of JEDA started in 2009, when a group of public Social Workers set up a saving scheme from which they could access cheap credit without the hassle and bureaucracy common in established banks and microfinance institutions.

Over time the savings grew, and members utilized the cheap credit to improve their livelihoods. However this was not sustainable as the welfare of their extended families, neighbors both at the workplace and residents and even colleagues at work had not improved, these were always a financial burden to the “flourishing JEDA members”.

It is upon this background, that the saving scheme was transformed into a Community Based Organization to address the plight of those in need. The operations of the Organization have since spread from Wakiso District to other regions of Uganda.
