History of JEDA

The story of Just Empowerment Development Association (JEDA) started in 2009 when a group of public social workers came together to create a saving scheme. The main goal was to help each other access affordable loans without the strict rules and long processes of banks and microfinance institutions. This scheme helped members improve their lives and support their families.

However, as time went on, the group saw that many people in their communities were still struggling. Family members, neighbors, and friends were facing poverty and lacked support. The members realized that real change could only happen if they reached out and helped the wider community, not just themselves.

Because of this, they transformed the saving scheme into a Community-Based Organization (CBO). Through the CBO, they started to support vulnerable people in different areas, such as child protection, women empowerment, education, health, and environment conservation.

As JEDA continued to grow and expand its work to different regions in Uganda, it became clear that a bigger structure was needed to make an even greater impact. In 2024, JEDA officially transformed from a CBO into a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This change allowed JEDA to reach more communities, partner with more organizations, and increase its support to the people who need it most.

Today, JEDA remains committed to empowering vulnerable and marginalized groups, creating strong and self-reliant communities, and bringing positive change across Uganda.
